The Newborn Screening section of the State Hygienic Laboratory at the University of Iowa (SHL) is upgrading to a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), OpenELIS, beginning October 1, 2024.

The State Hygienic Laboratory will continue to use the same testing platform for Lyme testing, but we have updated our reporting to include Interpretation for Laboratories and Interpretation for Providers in our test trailers.

Due to confirmed cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5) in Iowa dairy herds, the State Hygienic Lab is collaborating with health authorities to test individuals showing flu-like symptoms after potential exposure. This effort aims to monitor and control the spread of the virus.
