Environmental Health Division at SHL

At the State Hygienic Laboratory Environmental Health Division, highly skilled analytical scientists perform diverse chemical testing on many types of environmental samples.  Most samples are from common environmental sources, such as wastewater, drinking water, surface water, groundwater, air, fish, foods, soil and sediment, and powders. We also test human samples such as blood, hair, teeth, and urine and have the capability to test unusual samples.  Samples are often tested in support of an existing regulation, contract, grant or monitoring program.

Our environmental testing labs are actively involved in all-hazard preparedness as part of the CDC Laboratory Response Network (LRN), FDA Food Emergency Response Network (FERN) and both EPA’s Environmental Response Laboratory Network (ERLN) and Water Laboratory Alliance (WLA).
