Teachers association honors Project AWARE

Aug. 31, 2018 --

The Iowa Science Teachers Section (ISTS) of the Iowa Academy of Science announced on Aug. 8 that it selected Project AWARE (A Watershed Awareness River Expedition) as a recipient of its prestigious Friend of Science Award.

Prvt. Laurel Hanan, Fredericksburg, Iowa

SHL has supported Project AWARE for many years and is a sponsor of the river clean-up and educational event.

The Friend of Science award recognizes “corporations, coalitions, foundations, or government entities that have made significant contributions to ISTS and/or to science education at the local, regional or statewide level,” as reported on its website.

ISTS advocates for science education policies, promotes professionalism in science education and enhances how students learn about science.

The Iowa Academy of Science is Iowa’s oldest scientific association and the only general science organization in the state.

The award will be presented to Project AWARE during an Oct. 8 gathering.
