ADMINISTRATION
AND FINANCE
The Division of Administration and Finance is responsible for the management of the business practices, the facilities, and the pre- and post-analytic processes related to laboratory testing. Business management for the laboratory is centralized in the Coralville laboratory facility. Staff that oversee the pre- and post- analytical processes are located in the Coralville, Ankeny and Milford laboratories.

Facilities

The Facilities section in Coralville is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the infrastructure and operation of the laboratory building in the areas of specialized heating, ventilation and air conditioning; space planning; and others. This oversight ensures that laboratory operations are not interrupted due to facility failures, that the working environment is safe for staff, and that the environment outside of the Hygienic Laboratory stays safe.

Facilities staff works closely with the University of Iowa to support proper functioning of lab systems, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to the major building systems, this section is responsible for small repair and improvement tasks throughout the building.

Major achievements:

  • Contributed to the completion of the Center for the Advancement of Laboratory Sciences.
  • Installed snowmelt systems for the air handlers.
  • Repaired and installed a building humidifier and a larger distilled/deionized water treatment system.
  • Rebuilt a storm discharge system.
  • Installed an air cooled chiller on the roof of the Coralville laboratory.
