The State Hygienic Laboratory in Coralville, Ankeny, and Lakeside will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025 in observance of Memorial Day.
Throughout the holiday the courier will run as usual.
In the event of an emergency contact the State Hygienic Laboratory Duty Officer via Campus Security at 319-335-5022. Calls are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Newborn Screening testing is performed seven days a week even on weekends and holidays. Critical and outbreak testing is performed on weekends and holidays as necessary.

Effective February 10, 2025 the State Hygienic Laboratory will increase the fee for non-human exposure rabies testing to $50 per specimen.

H. influenzae and S. pneumoniae Serotyping Report Changes

Posted on January 23, 2025. The State Hygienic Laboratory will employ two new tests for H. influenzae and S. pneumoniae stereotyping in an effort to clarify final reports. These changes will be effective 3/1/2025. There is no change to testing being performed.

Brucella Removal from Select Agent List

On January 16, 2025 Brucella species (abortus, melitensis, and suis) will be removed from the Federal Select Agent and Toxins list. Please see the attached announcement for change details.
