Test requests and results have new look
The Disease Control Division at the State Hygienic Laboratory is moving to a new laboratory information management system (OpenELIS) on Sunday, March 1. The new system will affect how clinical specimens (except for neonatal screening, maternal screening and rabies) are reported, billed, and accessed through the web.Attached to this announcement you will find:
- An example of a new result report
- A new invoice format
- Updated CPT codes
For those who access their results through the PHIMS web portal, results for all clinical tests (except for neonatal screening, maternal screening and rabies) that are received on or after March 1 will be posted in OpenELIS. Results for clinical tests received before March 1 will remain in PHIMS for historical reporting.
All PHIMS web users will be automatically moved to the OpenELIS web portal shortly before March 1. You will use the same user name and password to access the new OpenELIS web portal. The new portal will greatly improve your access to the results by offering enhancements that include:
- Email notification when a sample arrives at the laboratory
- Notification when results are available
- Real-time status of testing
- Access to final reports (result reports)
- Ability to select and download sample data in spreadsheet format
- Simplified design with page level instructions, pop-up help for search fields, and more search options
Things to Remember
- New Facility Number (Organization Number) - All clinical clients will have a different facility number after the system change on March 1. This number MUST be written on the test request form. Facility number is synonymous with organization number (OpenELIS) and client number (invoice). Please recycle any preprinted test request forms generated before March 1, 2015.
- Updated CPT Codes - CPT codes have been updated including adjustments to some charges.
- New Invoice Format - The format of invoices will change as shown in this example.
- New Test Results Format - The format of the test result reports will change as shown in this example.
- Coming Soon: New Test Request Forms - Updates to the test request forms are underway. An announcement will be posted on the State Hygienic Laboratory website when we convert to the new forms.
The procedure to access your web results will not change. If you encounter any problems or have questions, please contact Mike Hayek at 319-335-4358 or via email at Michael-hayek@uiowa.edu.
