State proclamations support health and safety
January 30, 2020 -- Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed several proclamations in recent months supporting activities that help keep Iowans healthy, and which are directly connected to the work of the State Hygienic Lab.

The governor proclaimed September Newborn Screening Awareness Month in Iowa, an issue on which SHL works 365 days a year (more than four million newborns are screened annually through a simple test that saves tens of thousands of lives annually). And in November, several SHL staff were on hand when the governor marked U.S. Antibiotics Awareness Week, as SHL works with clinical labs and the Iowa Department of Public Health to perform testing for resistance pathogens that promote judicious use of infection control efforts.
